Amazon has created a very stable device that connects to pretty much every kind of Wi-Fi but when it comes to media streaming devices, initial setup is sometimes problematic and the reason for it might range from incorrect Wi-Fi passwords to censorship from the internet companies. Whatever might be the problem, there is always a solution to the problem. All it needs is a cool head and a well-thought-out approach to figure out the solution. Please follow the following steps if your Fire TV won’t connect to Wi-Fi. If your Fire TV or Fire Stick says “connected with problems” please jump to step 2.

- Ensure you are using the correct wifi network and are putting in the correct password. You might find the default wifi name and password printed on the label affixed to the wifi router.
- Unplug the power cable from the router for 30 seconds and plug it back in. Wait for all lights to stabilise before proceeding to next step. This may take up to five minutes.
- Retry to connect to the wifi. In most cases, this is all you would need to do. However, if it still does not connect, most probably we will need to change a few settings on the router.
- Name the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz wifi differently. If your 2.4 GHz wifi name is “abc” name the 5 GHz wifi “abc-5G”. You can still use the same password for both these networks.
- Change the wifi channel to ensure there is less interference. You can use the auto-select feature and your router will automatically pick one that is free.
- Change the LAN DNS servers to some public DNS servers. You can use the servers 208.67.222.222 (OpenDNS) for DNS1 and 8.8.8.8 (Google) for DNS2. If LAN DNS option is not available, change the WAN DNS.
- Give the FireStick a static local IP and DMZ it. 99.99% of the time this will rectify the issue. However, for the further 0.01% look to point 8.
- Change the wifi name. Please do not use any special symbols expect hyphen (-) and underscore (_) in wifi names. Also do not put in any spaces. Though the Fire Stick is immune to these issues, this has been reported to be problematic for some legacy devices.

After making all these changes, restart the router and reboot the fire TV and you should now be able to connect properly. Also as a side note, please restart your wifi router at least once a week.
